Green Build dedication

June 7, 2008 - Rotary members from Tulare and Vilsalia chapers, several members from local churches, and members of the community , joined the new home owners Eiberto & Marisela Casillas at the dedication of their house on Saturday.

Father Samuel Borbon from St. Mary's Catholic Church did the dedication of the Green Build house.

 Green Build Wall Raising

Volunteers from the City of Visalia, Lemoore Naval Station, Centex Homes, St..Paul’s Church, First Presbyterian Church, and the Rotary Clubs of Tulare & Visalia joined volunteers and staff from Habitat for Humanity of Tulare County on Saturday Aug 25th to raise the walls on the first “Green Build” house for HFHTC. This house will be built with 2x6’s on 24 inch centers, to allow for much denser R-19 insulation. The 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2 bath house will also take advantage of recycled building products and energy efficient items like a tankless water heater and a photovoltaic system (solar) to heat the home.

“What we are saying is if Habitat for Humanity can build Green - so can you” said Betsy Murphy, executive director of HFHTC. “This house will be a model for future projects in the county in an attempt to improve energy efficiency and long-term affordability for the families moving into the homes, as well as inspiring others to take the green initiative.”

Marisela Casillas and her 16-year-old son came out early to start their 500 hours of sweat-equity working on their house. Every HFH family must fulfill certain requirements before a house is built and sold to them. Steady income, good credit, legal residency, and willingness to partner are required to become a Habitat homeowner.
