The Visalia Oaks and Aluminum Cans Help Habitat for Humanity of Tulare County Build More Homes

It takes the money from more than 500,000 recylced cans to build a Habitat house. The Visalia Oaks and Habitat for Humanity of Tulare County hope to turn cans into keys by continuing an innovative recycling program  started during the 2007 baseball season. Fans of the Visalia Oaks who bring a grocery bag full of aluminum cans to the ticket booth on Thursdays games will receive a $1 off voucher for their ticket purchase. Bins, compliment of Waste Management in Visalia, will also be placed at all Visalia Oaks home games and at the Habitat for Humanity affiliate for additional can donations.

To make a donation, bring your cans by the Oaks ballpark at 440 North Giddings Street, or to Habitat at 715 South Bridge Street. For any questions, call the Habitat office at 734-4040.

Habitat for Humanity of Tulare County is collecting cans, not only to help preserve the environment, but also to help provide more affordable housing opportunities for low-income families in the community. The proceeds from recycling the cans will further the building efforts for Habitat for Humanity of Tulare County.

Since the Cans for Habitat program began in 1997, more than 11.3 million pounds of aluminum cans have been recycled by and for Habitat affiliates. Local affiliates, volunteers, recyclers, national and local retail outlets and civic organizations work together to Make Every Can Count! Habitat Day at The Ball Park

The August 30th Game at the Ball Park was dedicated to all the fans and to Habitat for Humanity. Board President Ed Meffert handed the The Hernandez Family the keys to their new habitat house in Tulare, and the kids got to throw out the first two pitches. Habitat and the Visalia Oaks have exciting new events planned for 2008, so keep bringing in the cans to the Habitat office and keep tuned to this and the Oaks website for up dates. www.oaksbaseball.com
